According to all but one story Frederick Jr. was hunting on his farm near Bowling Green when the Harpes stumbled upon him, slit his throat & stole his rifle. He was disemboweled, filled with stones & dumped in the Barren River on or about 4/12/1799.
The one story claims he noticed smoke rising across the river from his home. Assuming he had new neighbors he went to visit them with a turkey, a string of fish & his fiddle. But instead of new neighbors he found the murderous Harpes.
