Gilbert T. Ahlstrand died Saturday Jan. 23 1999,at Green Acres Country Care Center, North Branch, where he had been a resident for three weeks. He was 93 yrs.old.
Gilbert Theodore Ahlstrand was born Sept 9, 1905, the youngest in a family of 9 siblings, on the farm of his parents, Gustav and Hedda Ahlstrand in Little Sauk Township, Todd County, (located 8 miles west of Long Prarie) Minnesota. He attended country school District #15 for 8 years in the village of Gutches Grove and was a member of the Reynolds Swedish Baptist Church.
In 1930 he attended the School of Agriculture, University of Minnesota and won medals in wrestling and live stock judging. He worked on the home farm until 1933. He worked at the Reynolds Co-op Creamery in Cyrus, MN and operated it as the Cyrus Farmers Creamery until retirement in 1977.

In 1930 he attended the School of Agriculture, University of Minnesota and won medals in wrestling and live stock judging. He worked on the home farm until 1933. He worked at the Reynolds Co-op Creamery in Gutches Grove, MN. In 1935 he bought the Cyrus Farmers Creamery and operated it until retirement in 1977".
While in Cyrus, he met his wife Kathryn (Kay) Kaltenhauser, a Cyrus schoolteacher, whom he married October 24, 1942.
He was also part owner in 3 other creameries in western Minnesota in the 1930's and 1940's and managed the Swift Falls Creamery for 3 years in the middle 1950's. He owned a milk drying plant with his brother, Elmer, in Paynesville for 10 years. He served on the Cyrus City Council and served as mayor for 2 terms in the 1970's.
In 1977, he and Kathryn retired to Lindstrom, MN and enjoyed a full life there with relatives and friends at Water's Edge Condominiums, where he resided until Dec of 1998. He and Kay enjoyed some winters in Florida and California. Gib liked baseball, playing cards and visiting with friends. He liked to cook and can, his specialty was jams and jellies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Harry, Adolphe, Arthur, Elmer, Paul, Otto and Eric; sister Ellen and his wife, Kathryn in 1993.
He is survived by one son, Gilbert George Ahlstrand of Minneapolis and many nieces and nephews from Minnesota and around the country.
