I'm proud to say this man was my father. He was the son of John Minter and Mary Ettie (Johnson) Egger.

He married Cora Irene Goins on March 23, 1926 in Indian Creek, TX. Cora was the daughter of John Christopher Columbus Goins and Lou Cordelia Reese "Delia" Goins.

They had 5 children:

Cora Lorene (Egger) Minica,
Willie Clemons "Bud" Egger,
Billie May (Egger) Smith,
Betty Lucille (Egger) Newcomb,
and me, Johnny Edward Egger.

He was everyone's friend and he deeply loved people, no matter who they were. He was a farmer most of his life and in his later years worked around Brownwood, Texas.

He died of cancer in Houston, Texas. Harry E. Hames officiated at his funeral. When he passed away Davis Morris Funeral Home said it was the biggest crowd of people in their history. All of them could not even fit in the chapel and had to stand on the front lawn and in the street. That was a blessing to us children to know that so many people loved him as we did. He was of the Baptist faith.

More than 40 years later he is still thought of and loved every single day. There is not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I am so proud to be his son.

The picture of him by himself is when he was about 25 years old. The one with him and his wife (Cora Irene Goins Egger) was taken about 1960.

Four of his children have now passed away. Betty Lucille (Egger) Newcomb, Willie Clemons, and Billie May Smith are buried in the same cemetery as he is. Cora Lorene (Egger) Minica is resting in the Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.

Now dear father, the lady that you loved so much all your life is resting beside you, your wife, and our mother. She still talked about you right up until the end came, and God took her Home. Now, after all these years you and her can be together forever. One day we can all be together again.
