"The LaFayette Sun" - October 14, 1931:

Sanders Is Killed Instantly Saturday.

The accidental death of L. K. Sanders, prominent farmer of Beat Four, was a severe shock to friends and relatives in the county last Saturday. Reports of the death of the prominent Chambers County citizen was to the effect that he had gone squirrel hunting early last Saturday morning and on his return home he had gathered some roasting ears in a jute bag. He was carrying the sack of corn and shotgun when he attempted to cross a bob wire fence. Relatives state he must have lost his balance, the gun slipping from his grasp and firing. A load of small shot entered his left side near the heart sufficient to produce instant death. A son found him hanging on the wire fence dead about an hour after he is supposed to have died. A watch in his pocket had stopped at 8:15 o'clock.
The funeral service was held from the Macedonia Church last Sunday afternoon at three o'clock with Elder L. M. Parrish, pastor of the church, and R. E. Owen, pastor of the Milltown Baptist Church, being the officiating minister. The deceased would have been fifty-one years of age next February 14th.
Surviving him are a widow, two sons, one daughter and a number of other close relatives in LaFayette, Chambers and Tallapoosa Counties. The deceased was a brother of Mrs. C. W. Blanton, of this city, and Dr. Sanders, of Reeltown.
Robinson & Cutler, undertakers, were in charge.
