Edward Lamarr Gwinn, age 64, resident of Greenville, South Carolina and Shanghai, China, died on Sunday, the 27th of December, at Saint Francis Hospital. Born on May 30, 1945, Edward was raised in Greer, SC and attended Byrnes High School. He served his country in Vietnam, Okinawa, and finally in Taiwan where he met and married his wife. Together, they raised two children while he completed his education and began his career. Edward obtained his degree from Furman University and started his working life at Regal Textiles. After 25 years with Michelin, he retired at the age of 58 from senior management in the Singapore office which handled duties for all of Asia. For the last 6 years of his life, he and his wife lived in Shanghai, China running a successful consulting and investment firm. Edward was a man who loved his work, but even more, he loved his family as is illustrated by his great passion for genealogy and tracing his family tree. He leaves behind a family record and history that encompasses over 3,600 people spanning 24 generations and nearly 800 surnames. Included in that record is his much beloved father, Boyce Edward Gwinn, who predeceased him on August 12 earlier this year. He is survived by his mother, Onivia Neves and his wife of 40 years, Debbie Gwinn. Also surviving him are his sister, Elaine Gwinn Smith; her husband, Mike; and their sons, Austin and Clay. He leaves behind a son, Marc Gwinn and his wife, Caroline France; and a daughter, Tanya Gwinn and her children: Ella, Anah, and Michael Jurs. Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Wood Mortuary conducted by Rev. Ludwig Weaver. Visitation will be held 2:45-3:45 p.m. before the services at Wood Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Greer Community Ministries, P.O. Box 1373, Greer, S.C. 29652.
