Sidney Davis better known as Bill, came to Bailey County in 1934 from Lamb County. He drove a herd of wild horses and some cows for his dad W.L. Key to the Watson Community.
Bill joined the CCC in 1935 and was sent to Grand Canyon, Arizona, where he learned you don't volunteer for anything. Then he reenlisted in 1936 at Littlefield. It was there when we met the second time, we were in school together at Idalou in 1928.
Ruth Elnita Fort daughter of Perry and Lillian (Coker) Fort, came to Bailey County in 1935 from Plainview to the Bula Community as a junior and finished school at Bula.
In 1937 Bill and I were married by a Methodist pastor in the parsonage at Clovis, New Meixo. Our son Sidney Wayne was born in 1942 in Muleshoe.
We farmed until 1943 when Bill started his career in aircraft and missile. Bill and my first job was for Consolidated in San Diego, civil service. We worked on B24, B29, B27, B25, etc. then helped assemble German V2 Rocket at White Sands, working under Wernher Von Braun. Then we worked for Douglas, American, General Motors, Boeing Airplane and General Dynamic running purdures and checking Atlas missile and Dynaletran. We went back to Boeing in 1966 in Seattle, worked on the jumbo jet 747, and planned to stay until we retired,, plans were changed by the big lay off in 1970.
The different jobs took us from Texas, California, Washington, where we lived the longest and also to New York, and the privilege of living in seventeen different states.
We rented Mother's farm in November of 1971, and in March 1972 we moved back to Bailey County.
We enjoyed the different moves and meeting new friends, we have had over eighty mailing addresses.
We found our church helped us feel at home, we've been members of twenty-six Southern Baptist Churches.
Sid married Mary Banks while we were living in Moses Lake, Washington. Sid also worked the flight line as a mechanic. They had two sons, Sidney Louie and Kevin Allen.
They parted ways, Louie and Kevin came and stayed with us some. Louie completed high school at Three-Way in 1978. Kevin went and stayed with his mom and finished High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. They both took A&P (Aircraft and Power Plant) in Fairbanks. Louie got a job with Alaskan Airlines in 1979 and has been with them since, first in Alaska and now in Seattle.
Kevin finished the University of Alaska this year and is ready to find his place.
We bought our first new house in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and have lived in several mobile homes, the last one we pulled from Plattsburg, New York to Seattle and traded it for a house. Then in 1971 we sold the house and bought the Fort estate in 1979. 1981 we bought the Ed Autry house at Enochs.
Sid remarried in 1975 to Linda Hamilton, she had two children, C. W. and Vonna who are teenagers we enjoy very much.
Bill and Elnita celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary October 23, 1987 with about 130 attending. (Story submitted by Elnita Key)
