JARED E. CLARKE, M.D., 93, of Houston, died February 22, 1984. Dr. Clarke was born August 22, 1890 in Navasota, Texas, and was a graduate of The University of Texas Medical School in 1913. He served his residency at St. Joseph Infirmary from 1914-1915. He served as Assistant Surgeon with the rank of Lieutenant, U.S. Navy during World War I, and organized the Naval Hospital in Genoa, Italy. He returned to practice at St. Joseph, and was an active member of the medical staff, serving on committee after committee. He received a fellowship in the Texas Surgical Society in 1921, and was former President of the Harris County Medical Society, The Texas State Medical Association, the Fifth District of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and Post Graduate Medical Assembly of South Texas. He was also Past President and founder of the Houston Academy of Medicine, and headed the fund raising campaign for the Texas Medical Center Library. He was an original founder and member of the Doctors Club of Houston. Dr. Clarke was the first Harris County Medical Examiner, serving from January, 1957 until August, 1960. He was a member of the Sons of The Republic of Texas, and retired from active practice in April, 1970, moved to Richmond, Texas and lived with his daughter and son-in-law. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and J. W. Weatherford, Jr., Richmond, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Capt. and Mrs. J. E. Clark, III, U.S.N.R., Middletown, Virginia, sister, Mrs. Frank Vaughan, Bay City, Texas; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
