Funeral services for John Armstrong, Northfield city assessor, who was found dead in his home Monday morning, March 7, will be held at St. Dominic's church on Thursday, March 10 at 9:00 o'clock with the Rev. W. Leo Howley officiating. Interment will be made in the family lost beside the grave of his wife, in the Annunciation church cemetery at Hazelwood. Friends may call at the family home, 708 St. Olaf Avenue, this afternoon and evening and before the service on Thursday morning.
Mr. Armstrong, who lived alone, was found dead the victim of an apparent heart condition.
John Armstrong was born at Oakdale (Minnesota), the son of James and Ellen Raleigh Armstrong. When he was nine years of age he came with his parents to the Greenvale community where he made his home as a farmer until 1924 when he retired. With the exception of a few years spent in California he has since made his home in Northfield. Since 1938 he has served as Northfield city assessor.
In June 1916 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Leahy at the Annunciation church in Hazelwood. She passed away in 1945. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Mary Armstrong, Marion, Indiana; and Mrs. Royce Buck, Eldorado, Ark; one son, Leonard Armstrong, of Downers Grove, Ill., and also two grandchildren. There are also three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Mulligan and the Misses Agnes and Helen Armstrong and one brother William Armstrong all of Northfield.
