EINICE ALVINA SISLEY BAKER: Platteville; 94, passed away 27 Feb 1951. She was born 15 Mar 1856 near MarionIA, where her grandfather homesteaded a claim from the US Government. She would have been 95yrs old Mar 15. She was the oldest dau of John Sisley & Olive Woodward. Her early life was spent near GalenaIL & Prairie DuChien. While she was still small, the family moved to Platteville where she attended school at the Brick School & Platteville Academy. She later worked in MrsRowe's Shop, learning the dressmaking & millinary trade, which she followed for many years. During these early years she lived for some time at the Congregational Minister's home & while there joined the church of which she has ever since been an active member. On 26 Apr 1881, she was united in marriage to Almond Baker. To this union 2 sons were born: Everette-Ada MN & Lawrence-Lyndon StationWI; who together with 3 granddaus, 1 grandson & 1 gr grandson & many nieces & nephews survive her. Two bros: John & SimonA, 1 sis: Cassie Weller & a half-bro: George Stout preceded her in death. When Mr&Mrs Baker were first married they worked his fathers farm in llenboroTwp later going to FayetteCnty IA, then to WilliamsIA returning to WI in 1894 where they farmed near Lancaster & Ellenboro finally buying a farm in Liberty Twp where they remained until the boys were married. While there MrsBaker was a charter member & conscientious worker in Fairview Congregational Church which she helped organize in 1905. When they went to Fennimore to make their home, she still did dressmaking & cared for her blind & aged mother until her death. MrBaker passed away in Fennimore 7 Sep 1933. For sometime afterwards, MrsBaker lived with her son Everett in Ada, later coming back to Platteville, where she maintained her own home until recent years when she became too feeble & since has lived at the MrsLillie King Rest Home, until the time of her death.
