Chester E. Brown

MANISTIQUE- Chester E. Brown, Sr. age 75, of 209 North Fourth Street, Manistique died August 1, 2005 at his home.

He was born June 14, 1930 in Phelps, Wisconsion the son of Chester and Maudeline (Hanley) Brown and the family moved to the Upper Peninsula the same year. He attended schools in Grand Marais and Seney.

On November 12, 2002 he married Lisa M. Fagan in Manistique.
Chet was a memberof the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Germfask and the Melchizedek Priesthood of Elders. He was formerly self-employed in the forest products industry and was a millright in the construction industry. He was a former trustee of the Manistique Eagles Aerie #3755 and a former member of the Munising Moose Lodge, Germfask-Seney Lions Club and Seney Social Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, 4-wheeling, family events and church fellowship.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa of Manistique; sons Michael Brown of Holly, MI and Kevin Brown, Chester Brown Jr., and Harold Neumann-Brown of Manistique; daughters: Gloria (Dean) Anderson of Bark River, MI, Robin (Bob) Decent of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Linda (Bill) Eimerman of Manistique, Viola (Bill) Swain of Las Vegas, NV and Carolyn (Paul Rose) Rowland of Pontiac, MI; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren;
Brothers: Tim (Dena) Sparks of Tustin, MI, Paul(Karla)Sparks of LeRoy, MI, Edward(Charlotte)Sparks of South Haven, MI, Edwin Sparks of Grand Junction,MI, David(Patricia)Sparks of Bangor,MI, and Ernie (Linda)Sparks of Floral City, FL; Sisters: Sally Durtche of Wellston,MI, Clara (Paul)Holzmann of Irons,MI, Thelma(Chet)Atwell,Penny(Bill)Davidson,Wanda Berry and Leona(Butch)Thompson of South Haven,MI and Effie(Ray)Zink of Pullman,MI and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons,Larry John Brown and Gregory Brown and brothers: Fred Brown, Jessie Sparks and Ray Otis Sparks.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m on Saturday August 6, 2005 at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Memorial services will follow at 11:00a.m. with President William Leveque officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Germfask.

Chet's Last name was different from his brothers because when he was born his father Jesse Sparks had taken on the last name of his step-father which was Brown. Jesse went back to using his legal last name with his second marriage.


His son Gregory D. Brown is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Manistique, Michigan.
