Revolutionary War Private. The information for his birth and death above is from the DAR. However they list his death in Brownville, Point Salubrious, New York, which was not an option in the form on this site. Brownville, Point Salubrious is located in Jefferson County. The DAR gives only the year 1777 for his marriage to Esther Jocelyn, and shows her birth as 1760 and death in the same location as her husband on December 4, 1844. He is listed as a Private serving under Capts Daggett and Nichols under Cols Learned and Holman. The only children proven for DAR membership are Joseph who married Mary Hill and Esther who married Hiram S. Pomeroy.

David Rider/Ryder: Was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Shephard) Rider. He was born May 5th or 11th, 1757 at Douglass, R.I., and died August 25, 1825 in Lyme, Jefferson County, NY. He married Esther Joslyn on the 24th of April or May 1778. She was born 1758 and died December 4, 1844 (g.s.) in Lyme, NY.

Service: Enlisted May 1, 1775 at Roxbury and was in the service from December 14, 1776 to March 1777. Enlisted from Worchester Co. for nine months, from Adj. Gen. Office, Boston, Massachusetts.

Remarks: David Rider and his wife are buried in the Guffin Bay Cemetery on Point Solubrious, (Point Salubrious Cemetery) in the town of Lyme, Jefferson County, New York. His children were:
Benjamin, b. 1779, m. Polly Knapp
Joseph, b. 1780, m. Mary Hill
Esther, b. 1799, m. Hiram Pomeroy
Deborah, b. 1800, m. Silas Greenman.
