Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Phillips, 87, of Monterey, were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, with Rev. Tony Barnett and Rev. Jack Taylor officiating. Burial was in Welch Memorial Cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Phillips died Saturday, Jan. 5 at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Monterey Freewill Baptist Church.

Born June 7, 1914, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Joe and Emma (England) Looper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurston Phillips; a daughter, Pauline Phillips; three sisters, Dorothy Hinson, Bessie Key, and Ester Dixon; and two brothers, Herman Looper and A.P. Looper.

Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Buttram, Dayton, OH, and Judy Phillips, Cookeville; six sons, Floyd Phillips, Monterey, Willie Gentry Phillips, New Carsile, OH, Kenneth Phillips, Dayton, OH, Gary Phillips and Donny Phillips, both of Mt. Juliet, and Larry Phillips, Garattis, OH; four sisters, Christine Phillips, Sparta, Margree Anderson, Nashville, and Artie Jane Sheets and Velma Livingston, both of Dayton, OH; a brother, Ernest Looper, Rickman; 32 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were her grandsons.
