ROY CRAPSON KILLED INSTANTLY BY HIGH
VOLTAGE WIRES FRIDAY MORNING

Roy Crapson died instantly Saturday morning, when he accidently touched electric wires of the Wauneta Municipal system, carrying 2300 volts of current.
Mr. Crapson had previously been invited to join a friend making a trip to Lewellen, Nebr., and the two men decided that since the trip was to be made for other purposes, they would include a fishing outing on the same day.
Roy, in anticipation of the fishing, got out tackle and rigged it in preparation. He was practicing casting, apparently testing reel, line, etc., when he accidently tossed the line holding the lure over the electrical wires leading onto their farmyard home, just on the southern outskirts of Wauneta.
The reel and line were left near the pole, and a ladder was brought, upon which he climbed in an attempt to retrieve the snagged line and lure. No one knows just what did happen, but while up the pole, he accidently touched both of the bare, high voltage wires. Death was instant.
Walter Fox, service engineer for the Wauneta Municipal Electric System inspected the scene of the accident, and reported that in order for Mr. Crapson to have been able to reach the highest two wires that were bare, and carried the lethal (red) of current, he would have had to boost himself about four feet, and be on top, or on a foot level with the top of the transformer which was located on the pole where the accident occurred.
Examination showed a burn across the palm of one hand, and another burn across the wrist, indicating that the stricken man might have lost his balance, grabbed one wire and threw his arm onto the other, setting up the fatal result.
Mr. Crapson is survived by his wife and a family of seven children. Six sons and one daughter, all living at home. One daughter preceded him in death in 1951.
At the time of his death, Mr. Crapson was engaged in farming, (work) on the small farm where the family reside, and on the North side.
Funeral services were conducted from the First Methodist Church at Wauneta, at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Melvon Ireland was in charge of the service, with V. B. Johnston Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery at Wauneta.
