EDITH OFFICER IS DEAD AT 81

Mrs. Edith B. Officer, 81, 204 Fifth Ave., died Thursday at a local hospital after an extended illness.

Mrs. Officer was a lifelong resident of Council Bluffs and had a keen interest in the early history of the community.

She was the widow of Charles T. Officer, who was a member of a pioneer Council Bluffs family. Her late father-in-law was a charter member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Officer was one of the oldest communicant members of First Church. She was an honorary member of the National Missions Board of the church and belonged to the Women's Christian Association, the governing group of Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Survivors include:

Two daughters, Mrs Leon Corning Hills of Council Bluffs and Miss Virginia Beardsley of Washington, D. C., son, Richard Beardsley of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchlldren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Cutler Chapel, with the Rev. Robert C. Bowman of First Church officiating. Interment will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery.

The casket will remain closed.
