"Peter was a pipe organ builder in Philadelphia, PA, a fine cabinet maker and later a farmer. He built a very large dresser with small inlay. From 1771 to 1810 he lived in Hamburg, Berks Co., PA. In the spring of 1810, he moved with his two sons to Plain Twp. Stark Co., OH. Peter, and some of the others who migrated with him, stayed here; but part of them moved on to western Ohio and were never heard from again. They were presumed killed by Indians.
"On June 7, 1817, Peter was among the signers of the Constitution of the Evangelical Lutheran and Germany Reformed Church of Plain Twp., Stark Co., OH. He arrived in the Canton area July 10, 1810 and later moved to Plain Township in 1830, he settled on a farm that was in the wilderness. By labor and industry he soon converted it in to a productive farm.
"He then moved to Marlboro Township. On June 17, 1826, Peter and Susanna sold land to the Lutheran and Presbyterian Churches for a building and burial ground. In a book of land patents "A section of land being first place quartered by Congress to Richard Nelson, Sr., Sa Patent signed by James Monroe, President of the United States. Nelson sold the land to John Snider who in turn sold and deeded the same to Peter Shollenberger. Peter in turn sold 65 acres for $650.00 to his son Joseph. The deed was dated January 19, 1837.
In his will dated 1844, Peter's last name is spelled Shellenberger. (Stark Co., OH Will book B, p. 354) Peter is buried in the Peter Church Cemetery, which was named for him."
