John W. Schmolzi, 88, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at his residence. He was born on April 1, 1933, near Prairie Home, Mo. in Cooper County, the son of G.H. Schmolzi and Louise (Baker) Schmolzi, both of whom preceded him in death. John was united in marriage on January 31, 1953, at the Annunciation Catholic Church to Nedra Strickfaden, who survives of the home.
He served in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. John was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City, Mo. He worked for MODOT as a surveyor until retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Schmolzi (Wendy) of Oregon and Roger Schmolzi (Karla) of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Ross Schmolzi, Adam Schmolzi, Tim Schmolzi, Kevin Schmolzi (Kristy); four great-grandchildren, Brandyn Schmolzi, Noah Hefner, Jonathan Fisher, Celena Schmolzi; and one great-great-grandchild, Chloe Fisher.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11:00 a.m., all at the Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Mo. Interment will be at the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery with full military honors. Officiating will be Father Fred Elskamp. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Catholic Church or Annunciation Catholic Church, c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, Mo.
