March 11, 1865, Mr. Wehmeyer was married to Mary Rusch, a native of Switzerland, daughter of Jacob Rusch. This union has been blessed with five children, two of who survive: Bertha and Martha. Anna, Henry, and an infant are deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Wehmeyer are members of the Methodist Church.

Mary Wehmeyer was the daughter of Jacob and Anna Rusch, who immigrated to America from Switzerland about 1854. They came to Hermann. Early Hermann city records show wages paid to Jacob Rusch for work done on city streets and bridges. With the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined the Gasconade County Regiment of the Missouri Home Guards. He died of pneumonia in 1863 at a military hospital near St. Louis and was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
