Obituary from Messenger of Truth Issue 19, 2010:

Ethel Norma Davis Steiner was born on March 29, 1944, to Robert and Elsie Jantzen Davis at Burns, Kansas. She passed away on July 26, 2010, at McPherson Memorial Hospital, McPherson, Kansas. Our mother enjoyed reasonably good health until the last six months of life. Her death was a result of cancer. In 1946, as a small child, Ethel's family moved from Burns, Kansas, to Winton, California. When she eleven years of age, she yielded her life to God, finding forgiveness of sins. She was baptized in 1955 by Min. Edward Jantz at Winton, California, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. This faith was very close to her heart. In 1966, Mother worked as a nurse's aide at Grace Nursing Home, where she met her life's companion. On March 21, 1971, she was united in marriage to John D. Steiner, officiated by Min. John Jantz at Winton, California. For the first nine years of their married life, Mother and Dad made their home at Winton, California, where all five of us children were born. On March 21, 1980, Mother and Dad decided to move to Canton, Kansas, where we lived for a year and attended the United Center Congregation. In 1981, we moved to the Durham, Kansas, community, and the Morning Star Congregation became our church home. Everyone became very dear to her.
Mother had a gentle cheerfulness about her that seemed to draw people from all walks of life. Her ready smile and laugh will never be forgotten by her loved ones. She trusted God to see her through the difficult situations she met in life. Mother often left Bible verses out for us children to see if she thought we were experiencing difficult times. In 1994, Mother was almost taken from us in an automobile accident. God granted us sixteen more years with her. In these years, she readily accepted and loved three sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law into her family circle. She was blessed with fifteen grandchildren. Mother got a chance to hold her newest granddaughter before she died.Mother enjoyed fishing and camping. Over the last year Mother and Dad enjoyed life to the fullest, taking a long trip through the northwestern states, visiting many friends and family along the way. They ended up in California, where they stayed the winter, enjoying time with their children and grandchildren. Those left to cherish fond memories are her husband, John Steiner; two sons: David and wife, Elaine, Ronan, Montana; and Randall, Buckner, Missouri; three daughters: Charity and husband, Eric Hightower, Merced, California; Rachelle and husband, Matt Mahaffey, Winton, California; and DeAnn and husband, Jason Koehn, Buhl, Idaho; one sister, Della and husband, Paul Nichols, Winton, California; one brother, Don Davis, Sagle, Idaho; and many other relatives and friends. Her parents and parents-in-law, one sister, one brother, one sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and one niece preceded her in death. The funeral service was held on July 30, 2010, at the Morning Star Congregation, Durham, Kansas. Officiating ministers were Bruce Dirks, Merlin Wiebe, and Ransom Wiebe. The burial was in the Logan Township Cemetery.
