Albert E. Powers Sr. went to be with the Lord on Christmas Day, 2003. He will be joining his loving wife Dorothy, who predeceased Albert. Mr. Powers was a most unselfish person, and his death on Christmas was one of the best gifts he could have given his wife. He was the son of the late John H. Powers Sr. and Ellen Scott Powers, and was predeceased by his brother, Everett Powers.

Albert Sr. was a lifelong resident of Norfolk. He was an owner of Scott Rug Cleaners in Norfolk, which grew out of Compeco Cleaners. Mr. Powers was an Army veteran, having served in the 14th Armored Infantry Division during World War II, from where he received a Purple Heart. He was a former member of the Cosmopolitan Club in Norfolk

Mr. Powers was a long standing member of Calvin Presbyterian Church on Little Creek Road in Norfolk, where he served as a deacon and elder over the years.

Survivors include four daughters; Catherine Powers-Valle and her husband Stephen of Los Angeles, Margaret (Peggy) Bryant of Virginia Beach, Evelyn M. Powers of Rapidan, Va., Alice J. Powers of Richmond; two sons, Albert E. Powers Jr. of Virginia Beach and David W. Powers of Norfolk. Albert was graciously blessed with 12 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

Additionally, Albert has two surviving brothers, John H. Powers Jr. and his wife Blanche of Michigan and Norman Powers and wife Margorie of Virginia Beach; a sister, Aline Hudson and husband Robert of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law, Esther Sink and husband Lee of Collington Harbor, N.C.; and a host of nephews, nieces and dear friends.

The Rev. Bob DeWitt of Calvin Presbyterian Church will be officiating a graveside service on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapter, is handling arrangements. Condolonces may be sent to the family or www.hollomon-brown.com. Family and friends are invited to the Powers home after the services. Memorial donations may be made to Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2901 Little Creek Road, Norfolk, VA 23518.
