Shirley J. Renken, 73, passed away Dec. 1, 2001, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Shirley was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Drake, N. D., the seventh child of eight born to Henry and Elsie Wolff Weber. Shirley was raised in Drake and graduated from Drake High School in 1947. On June 4, 1947, she was married to Clarence Kohlman in Drake. They moved to Sidney shortly afterwards, where Clarence had purchased a ranch. Clarence and Shirley had three daughters, Karen, Brenda, and Peggy, who were born in Sidney. Clarence died on the family ranch in 1966. On Aug. 17, 1973, she was married to Donald 'Butch' Renken in Kalispell. They resided at Lake Blaine while Butch finished his career at the Hungry Horse Dam. They moved to Alaska in 1983, after Butch's retirement. In Alaska, Shirley enjoyed fishing hunting, and camping. Butch and Shirley were active in the church and loved traveling in their retirement years. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Clarence Kohlman and Butch Renken; a sister, Lucille Aldworth; and a grandson, Joel Haider. She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Berggren of West Glacier, Brenda Crowell and husband Rodger of Hungry Horse, and Peggy and husband Todd Rosenbaum of Hungry Horse; five grandchildren, Travis Berggren of Columbia Falls, Cory and wife Diane Witt of Wasilla, Alaska, Jason and Justin Witt of Beaverton, Ore., and Tara Berggren of West Glacier; four great-grandchildren, Trevor and Tyler Berggren and Wyeth and Walker Witt; six brothers and sisters, Roselyn Lueck of Fairview, Adrian Weber of Fairbanks, Alaska, Eldor Weber of Redmond, Washington, Elaine Bruner of Drake, N. D., Dolores and husband Ernie Mueller of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Clarence 'Bud' and wife Alice Weber of Corvallis, Ore.; and several stepchildren, nieces and nephews. Shirley will be missed by many friends and family. A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Columbia Falls. The Rev. Thomas Gopp will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Columbia Falls.
