Born in England c.1619, Ann Dodge, nee Mansfield according to some sources, was the wife of early settler Trustrum Dodge, Sr. (1607-1683), an English mariner-fisherman who had initially emigrated to Newfoundland, then came to Block Island in 1661. According to several sources, the couple had wed in the early 1640's. Widowed in 1683, Mrs. Dodge is believed to have survived her husband by only a few years, dying on Block Island c.1684-5, when she was in her mid-60's. Her approximate gravesite is marked by a Victorian reproduction of an earlier headstone in the style of the noted Rhode Island carver Capt. John Bull of Newport. Unlike stones of the colonial period, the repro is 6" thick. The inscription states that Ann and Trustrum Dodge were the parents of children named John, Trustrum, William, Israel, Margaret, and Ann. A geneaology of successive generations of the Dodge Family, whose history has been intertwined with that of Block Island for over 300 years, continues on the back of the stone.
