Henry Capron, who holds the record of twenty-one years as Town Clerk and Treasurer, was born in Uxbridge Nov. 25, 1827. He has been a life-long resident of the town and now lives in the house where he was born. He attended the Uxbridge public schools, the Leicester Academy and was also a student at East Hampton and Andover. For several years he operated a grist mill in the Center, and at different times was engaged in manufacture, but subsequently turned his attention to agriculture. Was elected Town Clerk and Treasurer in 1856, and held these positions for 20 years without pay, except the fees attached to the clerkship, and later, held the same offices for a single year. For several years was Trustee of the Uxbridge Savings Bank, was one of the early supporters of the Public Library, and was Trustee from 1881 to 1895. Is a Deacon of the First Evangelical Congregational Church.
