Lee Roth, age 91, of York, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 1996, at Fairmont.

He was born Nov. 10, 1904, at Hannibal, Mo., to Dan W. and Margaret (Zimmer) Roth.

Lee was a self-employed carpenter and also owned and operated grocery and soft ice cream stores in Fairmont for 20 years. A graduate of McCool High School, he was a former member of the Fairmont United Methodist Church and was a current member of East Ave United Methodist Church in York. He was also active in civic affairs, having served on the Fairmont School Board for many years.

In 1970, he retired and moved to York.

In approximately 1930, Lee was in attendance in Chicago when the legendary Babe Ruth indicated to the crowd where he was going to his his next home run. Pointing to center field he kept his promise on the very next pitch.

On Aug. 24, 1925, he was married to Mildred Tharp at York. She preceded him in death in June of 1991.

He is survived by two sons, Dean of San Francisco and Bob (LaMoine) Roth of York; two grandchildren, Ryan and Amber Roth, both of Kearney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one daughter, Gloria.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Fairmont City Cemetery.

Married Mildred M. "Mid" Tharp on August 24, 1924. Lee and Mildred were the parents of Gloria Roth.
