Mrs. Anna Dorthea Josephsen, nee Petersen, daughter of Anna and Anton Petersen died at her home near Stuart Monday June 12, 1944. Mrs. Josephsen was born in Shelby County, Iowa on August 30, 1889 and was 54 years, 10 months and 13 days old at the time of her death. At her usual evening meal, she was suddenly stricken and passed within a few minutes. She left the world as quietly and as sweetly as she had lived. Mrs. Josephsen was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Exira. She was united in marriage with Jerry Josephsen in Atlantic on April 8, 1908 and to this union, eight children were born, four boys and four girls. Two, Raymond and Clara died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted husband; three daughters, Esther Haswell of Audubon Township; Sara Waylert of Exira; Mildred at home, three sons, Aldi, in service overseas; Carl of Winterset and Harvey of Orient. There are also 16 grandchildren and four sisters: Mrs. Martha Josephsen; Mrs. Stena Nelson; Mrs. Lena Jensen; Mrs. Mary Salmonsen and five brothers, Hans; Andrew; Arthur; Anton and Pete.

A host of neighbors and friends too are numbered among those that deeply grieve her passing. No greater tribute could be paid to her than is expressed in the lovely verses that the children had given her for their Mother's Day message, one of which a friend has chosen to include in this notice of her death: "You are like a fragrant bouquet of simple, old fashioned flowers. The thought of you, however far, I stray, brings back my childhood hours." Funeral services were held Thursday, June 15th at the home in Exira. She was laid to rest in the Exira Cemetery. - Audubon County Journal, June 22, 1944
