Troy Green Chastain, member of the Fulton County Commission from 1937-1942 and a prominent religious and civic leader died following a heart attack suffered on his farm near Palmetto. Born in Cobb County, Mr. Chastain graduated from the University of Georgia agricultural school in 1909. Following graduation he became a professor at the Agricultural and Mechanical College in Clarkesville.

Mr. Chastain served as agricultural agent for the Central of Georgia railroad for 4 years and a 4 yr term as agricultural agen for Fulton Co. In 1921 he retired to start & become president of Atlanta Chemical Co, a fertilizer manufacture.

Mr. Chastain has served as a director of the First Federal Savings & Loan, as lieutenant governor of Civitan International, and on the board of the Atlanta area Boy Scouts of America. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. He served as president of the Atlanta Methodist Board of Stewards' Assoc.

To honor his contribution of the park, the county renamed North Fulton Park the "Chastain Memorial Park" on September 25, 1946. These 268 acres form the largest city park in Atlanta and is referred to as Chastain Park.
