Former Resident Dies At Pawhuska, Rites AT Alfalfa
Funeral services for Mrs. L.Z. Gamel, Pawhuska, a former resident of this community and mother of Culberson Gamel, Alfalfa, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 27, at the Alfalfa Baptist church. Rev. James Weston, pastor, officiated. Interment was in the Alfalfa cemetery.
Mrs. Gamel died Friday, May 24, at a Pawhuska hospital after being ill about two months.
Annie May Kirkham was born to T.W. and Frances Kirkham on July 29, 1883, in Montgomery, county, Ill. She was married on January 23, 1900, in Olney, Texas, to Lozade Gamel. Four children were born to them. The Gamels moved to the Alfalfa community where they lived 22 years before moving to Pawhuska 20 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Claudia Schram of Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Una Hart, of Pawhuska and Alva Pinion of Chickasha; one son, Culberson Gamel of Alfalfa; three brothers and two sisters, Bess Stahl of Abilene, Texas, Velma Stewart of Midwest City, Clifford Kirkham of Shawnee, Clyde and Tommy Kirkham, both of Bethany; 17 grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Attending the services from a distance were Bennie Ruth Hart of Del Rio, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paul of Edenburg, Texas, Mrs. Don Tynner of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hart of Pawhuska, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pinion of Chickasha, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Gamel of Topeka, Mr. and Mrs. Riley Hix and daughter of El Reno, Mr. and Mrs. Burl Gamel and Joyce Gamel of Oklahoma City.
