He mustered out on July 12, 1865 as John McClain. His enlisted for his 2nd tour of service Jan. 28, 1865 at Hollidaysburg for 1 yr. as a substitute. Served in Co. A, 48th Regiment of PA Inf., volunteer Boatman.Served under Col. Pleasant and under Capt. Hooker. Wounded in action at Petersburg,VA. Wounded at Lexington, KY (Morgan's Ohio raid). At Camp Biddle, Carlisle, PA Jan 31, 1865. Hospitalized at Hamwood, Washington D.C.
