Daniel, Christopher, Ralph, Oscar and Gilbert Treadaway took the surname Durham after 1900 based on their surnames were recorded in the 1910 Census as Durham. Thomas Jefferson Durham is the adoptive father of Daniel, Christopher, Ralph, Oscar and Gilbert Durham. I'm sure a few people and family members have researched this and came to the same conclusion.
Sarah (Ables) Treadaway-Durham should not be confused with Thomas Jefferson Durham's first wife Sarah (Treadaway) Durham, assuming that Sarah Treadaway was his first wife based on James Amos Durham's death certificate (pic). James Amos Durham is the son of Thomas Jefferson Durham and assuming Sarah (Treadaway) Durham, not Sarah (Ables) Treadaway-Durham. This is only hypothetical based on records available.
James Amos Durham was actually born in 1881 according to his WWI draft card (pic), not 1885 as shown on his headstone, and his death certificate (pic) didn't record the year he was born but was given the age at death as 60. He was also recorded as Amis Treadaway born Nov 1881 in the 1900 Census, which could be a recording mistake on his first name and surname by the census recorder. Given all this, he was probably 59 years old when he died.
