Gladys attended Sullins College in Virginia and the University of Georgia where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was also a member of the Atlanta Debutant Club, Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta and First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. Gladys was an avid bridge player and volunteered with several civic organizations in Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Tye, III, and her son, John Lewis Tye, IV. She is survived by her son, William Randall Tye and his wife, Lynda B.; her daughter, Catherine Tye McCoin and her husband, Edgar R.; six grandchildren: Lauren B. and LTC Jon Rucker, John L. Tye, II and Meredith Tye, Steve B. and Kimberly Tye, Carrie M. and Nathan Davis, Clay D. McCoin, and Anna R. Tye; and ten great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery on Monday, the twenty-sixth of July at eleven in the morning, Dr. Gil Watson officiating.
