Kay Griffith, 69, of Broadway, died Tuesday evening, June 29th, following an extended illness [cancer] with her loving family at her side.

She was a retired school bus driver with the Marysville Exempted Schools.

She was a 1959 graduate of Richwood High School, was a 1960 graduate of Columbus Business University in accounting, attended classes at Hi-Point in marketing and public relations and Wright State for small businesses and computer training. She served on the Superintendant's Advisory Council and was president from 1991-93 and was very active in other school district projects promoting education and school bus safety.

Kay's personal interests included attending sporting events and school functions for her grandchildren, scrapbooking, making greeting cards through stamping, OSU football, NASCAR, drinking Diet Pepsi and eating bonbons and Christmas. Her favorite saying and most used threat was "I'm going to beat you with a wet noodle!"

Active in her community, she was a member of: the Red Hatters, the Balloon Rally Committee for 16 years serving as the secretary for 6 years, served on the Division Bd. of Directors, the Site, Parade, & Ad Committees, and was a member of the Retail Division. She was a 45 year member of Diapers to Degrees, a local chapter of the Ohio Child Conservation League. Kay was named "The Ohio Homemaker of the Year" in 1976 by the governor's office.

Kay has also been active in 4-H and the Union County Fairboard, serving as the marketing and sponsorship chairman for 15 years, serving as a 4-H Advisor for 38 years, was a member of the Union County 4-H Council for 32 years where she served at president from 1987-89 & 1990-93, was treasurer from 1981-87, and secretary from 1984-94, was a Union County Representative to Area 4-H Council from 1982-84, 97, a 4-H Leader from 1991-98, member of Union County Extension Advisory Council and served on an 8 county camp board. She was a 30 year member of the MHS FFA Alumni where she was president from 1988-93, treasurer/ secretary from 1993-94. Kay was coordinator for the MHS School Bus Drivers in the "Walk America", has been a member of the Raymond United Methodist Church for 26 years, was a member of the Union County Fairboard for 34 years serving as president for 6 years, secretary/treasurer for 2 years, and Fairboard Advisor from 1995-98. She has held many other memberships and received numerous achievements and awards.

She was born January 14, 1941 in Marion to the late Kenneth and Esther Gabriel Evans. She married David Griffith January 20, 1964 in Columbus.

Kay is survived by David, her husband of 46 years; their children, Kim (Mike) Horch Butcher of Richwood, Dale (Michele) Griffith, Deanna Griffith of Tega Cay, SC, Daren (Katie) Griffith, Karen (Brian) Ogan all of Marysville, Kyle (Michelle) Griffith of Hilliard; 12 grandchildren, Cory & Caitlin Butcher, Derek, Marisa & Amanda-Denney Griffith, Colton, Tyler & Abby Griffith, Kayla & Garrett Ogan, Aidan & Mia Griffith; a great grandson, Cael; sisters, Carolyn (Carl) Anderson of Alpena, MI, Dianna (Joe) Smith of Green Valley, AZ, Mary Ann (Terry) Patton of Richwood; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
