Mr. Maples died Saturday, July 24, 2010, in Lawton.

He was born May 27, 1927, in Cache, to Clarence and Vena Baker Maples. Alfred was raised and attended school in Cache. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps, and after he completed his active duty service, he married Paula York in their home town of Cache. They settled in Lawton with Alfred working several years for Ford Roofing and then at the Post Engineer's carpenter shop. He was later employed by the Corps of Engineers and was involved in the construction of Atlas Missile Silos in the early 1960s during the Cuban crisis. He retired in 1982. He enjoyed playing card games, yard darts, family gatherings and FISHING! Most of Alfred's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren can tell memorable tales of fishing with Papa.
Survivors include his wife of almost 62 years, Paula; sons: Randy Maples and wife, Jody, of Indiahoma; and Geary Maples and Lauri Roznovsky, of Houston; daughters: Sherry Burton and husband, Tom, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Brenda Lathe and husband, Bob, of Lawton; grandchildren and their spouses: Geran and Kim, Clint and Kacie, Tera, Trace and Corinne, Jacob, Rachel, Josh, Heather, Krysta and Trey; great-grandchildren: Skylar, Caleb, Brayden, Kaisa, Ethan and Erin; a brother-in-law, Ralph York and his wife, Sue, of Lawton; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise McCracken; brother, Leon Maples; and an infant brother who died at birth.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
