Tyre Glenn was born 24 Oct. 1765, the son of Anna Blagrave and Jeremiah Glenn (See sketch of Jeremiah Glenn in The Citizen). He was married 12 May 1785 to Rachel Moon who was born 12 March 1771 and died 26 July 1849. She was the daughter of Gideon Moon and his wife, Mrs. Mary Hill, a young widow nee Hudson (See sketch of Gideon Moon in The Citizen). The estate of Tyre Glenn is on file in Greenville. They owned lands on both sides of the Greenville and Spartanburg County lines between Wood's Chapel Methodist Church and the Abner Creek Baptist Church. From the estates the children are listed as:
Elizabeth Glenn, a daughter who married Samuel Parks of Laurens County.
Mary Hudson Glenn, a daughter who married Col. James Parks of Laurens County.
John Glenn, a son and no further data on him.
Jeremiah Glenn, a son who married Sara McClimon.
Garland Glenn, a son and no further data on him.
Beverly Glenn, a son whose full name may have been Tyre Beverly Glenn who had a wife named Rosa Glenn in the 1850 census.
Anna Blagrave Glenn, a daughter who married Paschal Dacus.
Phillipina Glenn, a daughter who married John McClain and moved to Tate, Ga.
Elissa Glenn, a daughter who married James McClain.
Clara Glenn, a daughter and no further data on her.
Rachel Moon Glenn, an unmarried daughter who died before her parents.
An old newspaper clipping (cited above) states that Tyre Glenn was drowned in the Enoree River when the boat in which he was fishing capsized. Tyre Glenn shows as a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church by 1800 and later shows as a member of the Bethel Baptist Church at Woodruff. Later when the Abner Creek Church was organized he was a member there. Unless she joined in an advanced age, Rachel Moon Glenn remained a member of the Episcopal Church but attended church at the Wood's Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church.
I searched the graveyard at both Wood's Chapel and Abner Creek for Glenn graves. Somebody told me the graves had been moved to Mountain View Cemetery in Greer.
Scores of present day Greer citizens descend from the Glenn family.
There is a large tombstone in Mountain View Cemetery (formerly known as the Greer City Cemetery) with the following inscription :
