Funeral Here Sunday for Prominent Retired Farmer
Van Buren Bowman, 87, prominent retired Monroe Township farmer, died at 5:45 pm Thursday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital where he has been a patient a few days. Death followed an illness of one week. He and Mrs. Bowman celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Bowman resided on their farm northwest of Berne for 62 years. Mr. Bowman retired from farming 20 years ago.
He was born in French Township April 18, 1882, a son of Isaac and Anna Houck Bowman. He was married to Nancy Reber July 30, 1904.
Surviving are the wife; a son, Herman (Punk) Bowman of Berne, former Adams County Sheriff; a daughter, Mrs. Helen M. Flueckiger, Berne; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and a half-sister, Mrs. Josephine Baumgartner, Decatur.
A son, a half-sister and a half-brother preceded in death.
The body is at the Yager Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 pm Saturday and where services will be held at 2 pm Sunday. Rev. Gerald R. Vincent, pastor of the Monroe E.U.B. Church of which Mr. Bowman was a member, will officiate and burial will be in the MRE Cemetery.
