Retired Paint Contractor Dies at Bluffton Monday
Fred Fennig, 77, well-known retired paint contractor and former
G. E. employee, died at 2:30 pm Monday following an illness of
three weeks. Death took place at the Caylor Nickel Clinic, Bluffton,
where he had been hospitalized for 10 days. A resident of Berne
most of his life, he was born at New Corydon January 15, 1890,
the son of Lewis and Mary Tullis Fennig. He resided at 225
Columbia Street with his wife, the former Cora Yoss who survives.
He was a painter and decorator for 30 years and associated with
the late Orval Allspaw for many years. The couple were married in
Berne September 10, 1919 and were faithful members of the First
Missionary Church where services will be held Thursday at 10:30
am with the Rev. Gerald Gerig, pastor of the church, officiating.
Burial will be in the MRE Cemetery.
Mr. Fennig was a veteran of World War I and served in France.
Surviving besides the widow are Ernest Fennig, Indianapolis;
Leon of Camarillo, Calif., the Rev. Martell of Kenya, East Africa; the
Rev. Brice of Indianapolis and Mrs. Franklin (Corene) Steury of this
city. Brothers and sisters who survive are Ed of Geneva, Alvin of
Decatur, Mrs. Laura White, Portland, Mrs. Mae Luttma, Redkey and
Mrs. Kenneth (Gladys) Stoltz, Portland, rural route. One brother
and one sister preceded. Seventeen grandchildren survive. ​
Friends may call at the Yager Funeral Home and members of the
family prefer memorials to the African Inland Mission where their
son the Rev. Martell Fennig has been engaged in missionary work
for many years.
