Isaac enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 16 May 1862 in Asheville [Buncombe County], North Carolina by Dr. Stevens for a period of 3 years or until the wars end. He was mustered as a Private in Company F, 60th North Carolina Infantry. Isaac was captured at Stones River also known as Stones Creek Battlefield located in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, on 05 Jan 1863. He was going to be transferred to POW camps but became too ill to travel. He was admitted to the U.S.A. General Hospital No. 1 in Nashville, Tennessee on 21 January 1863 with pneumonia. Date of when he was sent to Provost Marshall was not indicated. On 25 February 1863 he was admitted to U.S.A. General Hospital No. 11 in Nashville, Tennessee also known as the smallpox hospital, where he died of smallpox at age of 33 years old on 26 February 1863. His hospital "Record of Death and Interment" indicated he was married, born in North Carolina in addition to info already mentioned. He was probably buried originally on the hospital grounds but after the war, all soldiers were exhumed and reinterred in the Confederate section at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
