Charles Bartolette Boughner was the son of Martin and Catherine (Swallow) Boughner. The next spring after his birth his parents moved to Cayuga County, New York., by Oxen team, His mother carried him upon a pillow in her arms, all the way, to lessen the jolts of the bumps. When he was three years old the family moved to Waterloo in Seneca County, New York. When he was ten years old the family moved to Flat Rock, Michigan. And in 1837 the family moved to West Bloomfield. where Charles lived the rest of his life. He taught schooland also farmed. He married Sophronia Harger, January 21, 1852. In 1890 he was elected State senator for the 14th senatorial district. He was a democrat. Charles and Sophronia had no children, but took into their home, his sister daughter, Ida Durkee, when her mother died, and raised her as daughter.
