Earl Davis met Olive, whose parents owned a house down the road from Marion and Nancy Davis (Earl's parents), in the Wabash area of West Union. Earl and Olive began to date when she was a young teenager. Olive was still attending high school (West Union High), but she dropped out and married Earl.
They had two children together. Olive was still a young woman when her children were born, and she did not think that she could take on another child. So, Earl's daughter, Virginia, continued to live with Earl's parents.
Earl had a house built, which sat just across a big garden from his parents. Earl and his Dad, Marion, had spacious gardens, potato patches, and corn fields. They kept a milk cow and some hogs on their property during the 1930's. ln the lean years of the depression, this produce, milk, and meat was shared by both families, which helped them all to survive.
Olive had worked at the O. J. Morrison Store, later working for Don "Boob" McNutt in his clothing store on Main Street. She had also worked for several years at the Circuit Clerk's office, at the Doddridge County Court
House. When McNutt sold his store, she worked for the new owners for a few years. Olive retired in 1967 at age 62.
She passed away from colon cancer, at the hospital in Clarksburg, WV. She was 78 years old.
