Jan 5, 1894 - An affidavit from B. P. Brown, M.D. for military pension does not make Augustus' death a pretty one. "...Said Adams died Sept. 8th, 1893 of lung disease and these were the circumstances: I had been treating him for 6 years for lung trouble and his condition had gradually grown worse and it was a matter of a short time until consumption would have killed him. He had grown emaciated, had a bad cough, had been unable to work for more than a year and was a confirmed and chronic hectic. For more than 18 months prior to his death I had been regularly prescribing palliatives - cod liver emulsion, syrup of hypophosphite's and kindred alleviating remedies. Aug 5th, 1893 I was called to his residence and found him confined to bed. He had an aggravated cough, night sweats and intermittent fevers. I visited him daily until he died. There were a few symptoms of typhoid but these yielded to treatment. He continued to grow weaker and the above symptoms more aggravated till death ensued.
