Herschel Brothers
Funeral services were held March 18 at Bethel Community Church in Orleans for Herschel Brothers, 98, Orleans, who died March 12 at Mitchell Manor Health and Rehab. Rev. Mike Williams officiated and burial followed in Bethel Cemetery.
Born Oct. 27, 1903 in Martin County, he was the son of Peter and Anna Frances Montgomery Brothers. He married Lydia Jane Hopper in 1933 and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2000.
He was first a railroader then a farmer. Following his retirement, he continued to work for Senior Citizens and was honored by the Green Thumb program as the oldest worker in Indiana in 1998.
He was a member of the Bethel Community Church, where he was an elder for several years.
Survivors include three daughters, Annabelle Toliver of Indianapolis, Helen Johnson of Orlando, FL, and Judy Byers of Cincinnati, OH; one son, Earl Brothers of Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Letha and Agnes; and three brothers, Otha, Cecil, and Clarence.
Ochs-Tetrick Funeral home in Orleans was in charge of arrangements.

Herschel Brothers, 98, of Orleans, died Tuesday, Mar. 12th, at Mitchell Manor Health and Rehab.
Born Oct. 27, 1903, in Martin Co., he was the son of Peter and Anna Frances Montgomery Brothers. He married Lydia Jane Hopper in 1933, and she died Mar. 30, 2000.
He attended schools in Oklahoma, and was a railroader and a farmer. After retiring from the farm, he continued to work for the Senior Citizens, where he was honored in 1998 by the Green Thumb Program as the oldest worker in Indiana. He was a member of the Bethel Community Church, where he served as an elder for a number of years.
He is survived by four children, Mrs. Jack (Annabelle) Toliver of Indianapolis, Mrs. Donald (Helen) Johnson of Orlando, FL, Mrs. James (Judy) Byers of Cincinnati, OH, and Earl Brothers of Mitchell; ten grandchildren, Margaret Ann Gebhart, Brenda Wirey, Alan Toliver, Tom, Joe, and David Johnson, Andy, Jonathan, and Seth Byers, and Tammy Grace; and fourteen great grandchildren, Heather Gebhart, Benjamin and Michael Wirey, Stuart, Michelle, Anne, and Grant Toliver, Melanie and Matthew Johnson, Donald A. and Joseph Robert Johnson, and Ryan, Justin, and Emily Grace.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Letha and Agnes; and three brothers, Otha, Cecil, and Clarence.
Funeral services were held Monday, Mar. 18th, at the Bethel Community Church. Rev. Mike Williams officiated. The burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
