Today, Thursday May 3, 2012, at The Sanctuary, 907 23rd Ave., Fairbanks. Sister Jones returned to Fairbanks the last year and a half of her life, where she lived with her youngest son and daughter. She had lived here for many years before retiring with her husband in Alabama. She is a from Goodway, Ala., where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Jimmie Harold Jones, and her parents, John and Janie Matheny.
Sister Jones passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loving family and friends, following a long illness.
Sister Jones was born in 1929 at the family home in Goodway, Ala., as the youngest of six sisters and two brothers. Brother Jimmie and Sister Lillie Jones were united in marriage in 1953, in Lucedale, Miss. He preceded her in death in 2000. Sister Jones looked forward to meeting him on the other shore.
Sister Jones was unwavering in her faith in God. She lived her faith without apology, setting a living example of holiness for her family and community.
She loved to write short stories and poems, often turning a sermon, Bible study or testimony into a poem.
Sister Jones put priority in raising her children and offering her support to her husband in his business adventures. She also was a telephone operator for Southern Bell and for Radio Fairbanks as a night operator. Lillie is survived by her son, Alexander Jones and her daughter, Jimmie Kaye Baldwin, both of Fairbanks; her daughter, Kathy Jones, and her son, Michael Jones, of Alabama; her son, Steve Jones, of Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, whom she all loved dearly; her sister, J. Esther Singley, of Alabama; her sister-in-law, Mary Heather Wilson, of Mississippi; and her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Beverly Jones, of North Carolina. Lillie was preceded in death by; her loving husband Jimmie Harold Jones, her son, David Aubrey, and her daughter, Sharon Miller, her brothers Earl and John Richard Matheny, her sisters; Ruth Hughes, Myrtle Wood, Mary Spencer, Doris Lancaster and Pauline Swanson all of Alabama.
