Well-known retired policeman here dies
Harold John "Red" Casey, 73, SIioux City, well-known retired Sioux City policeman, died Monday in the Sioux City hospital after a two-year illness.
Services will be at noon Thursday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert J. Schimmer will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 7:30 p.m. in the Jack Becker Funeral Home in South South City.
Mr. Casey was born May 17, 1911, in Murdock, Minn. and came to Sioux as a child with his parents. He married Opal M. Maurer Nov. 30, 1933, in Sioux City. On Sept. 1, 1938, he began his career with the Sioux City Police Department as a patrolman, retiring in 1966 as superintendent of the I.D. Bureau. In 1967 he was elected president of the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers, Inc. and the Sioux City Policemen's Association.
Mr. Casey was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly of Sioux City.
Survivors include his wife; one son; one daughter; three brothers, James, Donald and Kenneth; two sisters Kathline Irwin and Margaret Harbeck; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
