Richard C. Kanak, 82, of Gold Canyon, AZ. Passed away on August 31, 2005. Richard was born on February 7, 1923 in Chicago. IL. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years. Lavergn M. Kanak; sons, Richard C. (Kathy) Kanak of Illinois and James P. (Pam) Kanak of Utah; grandchildren. Johnny and Tammy (Dave) Shurr, both of Illinois; and great-grandchildren, David. Jonathan and Simone Shurr of Illinois. A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday. September 3 at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd. Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Richard was an ardent philatelist. He edited and published album pages for the postage stamps of Tannu Tuva (an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) also compiled the first catalog of their stamps ever published-Library or Congress Call No. HE6185.R93T354, Dewey Dec. Sys #769/.56957/5. LCCN: 78¬ 102976r943 (1977). USNR Serial #853-37-43 served on PT Boats 1943-45 Mediterranean Sea in Squadrons 15 and 22. Service dates: July 14, 1943 to Apn18. 1945. His favorite quip was "May the good Lord take a likin' to ya." Richard was a type I diabetic. He was a member of Arizona American Legion Post #27. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9399 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter #8. Hobbies, aside from stamp collecting, were Musky fishing in Northern Wisconsin. genealogy and model railroad trains. Champlain Corporation, Tescom Corporation and Bepex Corporation. He was a supervisor of Configuration Management at both Barnes & Rienecke and Northrop Corporation. The latter from which he retired on February 5, 1988: After retiring, Richard began pursuing' his family tree with more vigor. He was a member of Czech and Slovak Amer¬ican Genealogy Society of Illinois: the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International and. since many Czechs immigrated to Texas. He joined the Texas Heritage Society.
