She was born August 22, 1914 in Knoxville, IL, the daughter of Edward and Pearl Kellar Lindsey. She married David I. Wainer on February 4, 1940 in St. Louis, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1976. She married Abraham Leibovitz on August 25, 1978 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1996.
She is survived by a son, Barry Wainer of Galesburg and 2 granddaughters, Tamara Wainer (and Michael Raftery) of New York and Hilary Wainer Donnelly (and Benjamin) of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Kathryn and her husband David Wainer were the proprietors of the former Pastime Club in Galesburg. They also operated a clothing business out of their home for many years.
She was a member of Temple Sholom and the National Council of Jewish Women. She was also active with the Galesburg Cottage Hospital Auxiliary and the St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary. She was known by many for her cooking skills and her service to Temple Sholom.
Graveside service will be 2 PM Monday at Brookside Cemetery, Galesburg. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Temple Sholom Library Fund. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
