Abigail Leota (Gail) Schroeder, age 101, passed away Saturday, February 6, 1999 at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Gail was born May 21, 1897 near Springview, Nebraska, the only daughter of pioneer homesteaders Abraham Henry Titus and Edna L. Blakely. She and her brothers were greatly influenced in their Christian life by their grandfather, Rev. John Blakely, who lived with the family in his last years. Gail was baptized in the Baptist Church in 1913. Her entire girlhood was spent in Keya Paha County where she attended school. She was raised on the family ranch and helped her parents operate the ranch.

Gail married Willard John Schroeder March 11, 1924 in Winner, South Dakota, and to this union on son, Elton, was born. Their entire life was spent working on ranches for various people, and they later purchased ranches in Keya Paha County where they lived until Willard's death July 2, 1975. After Willard's death, Gail moved to Springview. Failing health caused her to give up her home in Springview and move to Omaha to be near her son, Elton. In 1995, she moved to the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

Gail was a devoted mother and a great friend to all. She loved the outdoor life, gardening and her flowers. After moving to Springview she joined the Methodist Church. She made many friends and was as active in church work as health would permit. Quiet, shy Gail set an example for all to follow as she lived her Christian faith. Gail was a very special lady and will be missed by all who knew her

Survivors include her son, Elton; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marti Schroeder of Valentine, Nebraska and Mrs. Lucile Titus of Naples, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews, plus a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers, Elmer, Fred and Harry Titus.
