EDITOR DUTTON DIES IN SENECA

News – Dispatch Publisher, Prominent in Politics, Succumbs at 76

SENECA, Mo., May 31--(Special)--W. R. Dutton, 76 years old, editor of the Seneca News-Dispatch for the last 12 years, died at his home Wednesday night. Death resulted for a paralytic stroke suffered two weeks ago.
Mr. Dutton had been a member of the Masonic lodge for the last 40 years. He was an active figure in all civic affairs here.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J. C. Kelly of Seminole and Mrs. W. M. Clark of Pawhuska; one brother, M. C. Dutton of Rayland, Ohio, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Methodist church. The Rev. Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in the Seneca cemetery under the direction of the Buzzard Undertaking company.
Mr. Dutton was born in Ohio and was active in Republican politics there in his youth. He aided in the election of Mark Hanna to the United States Senate and received a position as clerk in the United States Bureau of Information, serving two year.

Leaving Washington, he moved to Oklahoma, where he was appointed postmaster at Anadarko in 1910. He was elected to the state Senate, serving two terms.

In 1914 he moved to Iowa. Moving to Seneca in 1922, he purchased the News-Dispatch and soon assumed a leadership in McDonald county Republican politics.
