Funeral services for John H. Roper, born Aug. 25, 1893, near Ardmore, Oklahoma, are being held at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon at the Peeples Chapel with the Rev. L.D. Mitchell, Baptist pastor, in charge, assisted by the Rev. G. T. Palmer, minister of the M.E. Church, South. Interment will be made in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are: George Wilkinson, Archie Threlkeld, Willie Smith, Alfred Harrison, E.L. Dudley, Jack Ivey.
Under direction of Mrs. J.B. Hunts music will be by the Baptist Mixed Quartet: Mrs. Neal Freeman, Mrs. W.D. Henson, Rex Mahoney and B.N. Richards. Mrs. W.R. Britton will be at the piano.
Mr. Roper died here Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. He was stricken ill last Friday morning.
After growing to you manhood near Ardmore, Mr. Roper moved to Sayre, Oklahoma in 1911. From there he moved to a farm in the Ware community 15 miles northwest of Dalhart, in 1930. For the past two years he had lived in Dalhart.
While living at Sayre he was converted, though he did not join a church, he was a member of the Baptist constituency.
Surviving: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Roper, Dalhart; brothers, J.T. and Bill, Dalhart; Claude of Sayre; Roy of Cheyenne Okla; and Arthur B. of Grimes, Okla.; sister, Mrs. W.D. Palmer, Oklahoma City. He also has a son, George, 17, and a daughter, Jewell, 14, attending school in Amarillo. All the relatives are here except the son who is confined to his bed with illness.
