CRUSE
With her family surrounding her, Celia Gavito Cruse, 77, passed away on July 19, 2010. Born on May 29, 1933 in Brownsville, Texas to Valentin and Consuelo Tijerina Gavito, she had lived in Corpus Christi since 1964. Married to Robert L Cruse in 1954, he preceded her in death in 1971. She graduated from Villa Maria High School in Brownsville, Texas in 1951 and from St. Paul's School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas. After the death of her husband, she began a 30+ year career at Del Mar College working in the Allied Health Science Department and the Del Mar College Foundation and Development Office. She raised her family putting them through school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Incarnate Word Academy, Richard King and Del Mar College. She spent a good part of her life at her children's school, the baseball park, and gym and loved every minute of it. Upon her retirement, Mamo devoted her time to keeping up with her five kids and ten grandkids spread out across Texas. She was very proud of their accomplishments and likely relished telling others about them at any opportunity. She kept active as a volunteer with the Medical Assistance Program at St.Pius X Parish, bowled several times a week, and continued being active with Del Mar College through the Former Students Association.
