Also survived by daughters, Diane, Laura, & Marion Hawthorne, and Julia McDonnell; son, Blackwell J. Hawthorne, Jr. of Montana; grandchildren, Anna & Jesse Yashinski, Dean & Susie Hawthorne, Grace Jackson, & Madeline McDonnell; brother, William Hawthorne.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nan Hawthorne; brothers, Robert S. & Richard C. Hawthorne.

He served three years in the Virginia National Guard, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, and was a Prisoner of War. He was a former advertising director of the Falls Church News-Press newspaper in Falls Church, VA.

Graveside services were conducted with military honors on Saturday, January 23, 2010.
