George Tilman Hite, 81, husband of Polly Royster Hite, died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

The son of John Spencer and Mary Harrell Hite, Tilman was a graduate of Virgilina High School with the Class of 1948. He was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher; and was a founding member of the Aarons Creek Ruritan Club..

Tilman was owner/agent of Hite Insurance from 1976 until his retirement in 1997. The company is still operational.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Aarons Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Hite is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki H. and Jack Tolbert of King William and Harriett H. and Alan Hudson of Virgilina; and sons and daughters-in-law, George Tilman Jr. and Marsha Hite of Virgilina and James Spencer and Penny Hite of Danville. Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30PM Tuesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
