Nathaniel Chavis, Sr. "Shorty", 80, of Suffolk, VA passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010. He was born in South Carolina the son of the late Cora Lee H. and Lonnie Chavis. He was predeceased by his son, David Ray Chavis. He retired after 54 years as a truck driver for Burgess Trucking Company.

Nathaniel is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn J. and Wayne Evans, Karen F. and James Whitley all of Suffolk, VA, Natalie Chavis of Disputanta, VA; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Jettie Chavis, Larry and Cindy Chavis of Suffolk, VA, Nat "Pee Wee" and Lori Chavis of Eure, NC, Harry "Jabo" and Debbie Chavis of Suffolk, VA, Don and Tina Chavis of Ft. Smith, AK, Keith and Kandi Chavis of Toccoa, GA; 22 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters, Edith Gibson and Doris Strickland both of SC; nephew, Frank Chavis and wife Peggy of SC.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church with Rev. David Nicholes officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory and other time at the residence of Bobby Chavis. Memorial donations may be made to Community Baptist Church at 3520 Pruden Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
